Ithaca College Athletics

Welsh, a basketball and baseball player at Ithaca, has gone on to become an outstanding coach. At Massena Central, his 10-year basketball record was 146-32, and he was 101-9 in seven seasons as baseball coach. Welsh coached Potsdam College for 15 seasons with a 307-114 record, winning five straight NCAA Division III regional championships. He led Potsdam to one national championship (1981), and twice finished second nationally (1979 and 1982). Welsh was the 1981 NCAA Division III Coach of the Year, and has been a finalist for the award three other times. He is also athletic director at Potsdam.
