Athletics Advisory Council

Ithaca College Director of Athletics and Recreational Sports Susan Bassett ’79 has inaugurated the Ithaca College Athletics Advisory Council. The role of the Advisory Council is to support the department in striving to be the preeminent intercollegiate athletics program, as well as a point of institutional pride and distinction for Ithaca College. Through counsel and advocacy, the group will champion new as well as continuing initiatives, raising awareness of the department’s strategic direction and successes, while emphasizing alignment with IC’s vision and mission.

The alumni group of 13 key influencers brings distinguished achievement in professional endeavors and has contributed to the success of Ithaca College athletics programs spanning 10 varsity sports.

As a primary point of connection between the department and alumni athletes, parents and friends, the Advisory Council will initiate and promote meaningful opportunities for engagement and support fundraising efforts.

The group’s goals and objectives include providing advice and council, as well as advocacy for the Department of Athletics administration. The Council will consistently engage athletics alumni, parents and friends in on- and off-campus venues by identifying engagement priorities; be present and visible at significant competitions and athletics events such as the Athletic Hall of Fame induction ceremony; and promote meaningful interaction between alumni and current student-athletes.

The Advisory Council will serve as a communication bridge between the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and key stakeholders, and support fundraising efforts particularly focusing on the IC Annual Fund for Athletics, as well as major gifts for capital projects.

The inaugural meeting of the newly formed Ithaca College Athletics Advisory Council was held Dec.  10, 2014 at the New York Athletic Club. The initial group of advisors is responsible for developing the bylaws for terms of service and other operating principles. The group will conduct two in-person meetings annually as determined by the Board of Directors and participate in conference call meetings as necessary
