In 1920, Elsie Hugger ‘31 was IC’s first and only teacher in physical education. She coached all sports, including field hockey, basketball, volleyball and tennis for many years. Elsie earned national official ratings in field hockey and basketball. She was well-known as a dance instructor, and many credited her for their own success in athletics because of her teachings.
