Women's Crew, Sculling Competes at Bucknell

SUNBURY, Pa. – The Ithaca College women's crew and scullers traveled to Bucknell University on Sunday morning to compete with the Bison on the Susquehanna River.

The race was staggered, as boats were sent off in pairs on 30 second intervals, with the slowest boats starting first. The Bombers and Bison raced on a four-mile course, which is longer than most head races.

Sculling

IC's scullers dominated the field, winning the top two places overall, as well as each pairing.

Seniors Sierra Keat and Savannah Brija won the doubles field with a 20:10 performance, winning by more than 50 seconds in their first race together this season.

Coming in second behind Keat and Brija was the duo of sophomore Lauren O'Dell and freshman Dania Bogdanovic. The pair raced to a time of 21:03, which was more than one minute faster than Bucknell's third-place boat.

The Bison 2x A and 2x B boats finished third and fourth overall, but juniors Liza Caldicott and Jennie Brian were not far behind in fifth place overall. Caldicott and Brian raced to a time of 22:39, just 14 seconds behind fourth place.

Junior Pearl Outlaw and senior Ella Sarachan finished in sixth place with a time of 23:03, while senior Sophie Westfield and sophomore June Fortner took seventh after racing to a time of 23:33.

Women's Crew

In eights action, Bucknell's Varsity 8 and second Varsity 8 took the top two places, which IC's Varsity 8 finished third overall.

The Bombers' boat – coxswain Michele Hyland, Sarah Snow, Allison Ritting, Greta O'Hara, Mackenzie Morean, Izzy Ozkurt, Nicola Vigliotti, Alison Arndt and Devi de Oliveira – posted the top IC time, finishing the four-mile race in 19:24.

Ithaca's second Varsity 8 finished sixth overall with a time of 20:33, not far behind Bucknell's fifth-place boat. The second Varsity 8 boat consisted of coxswain Olivia Southworth, Mikayla Henry, Noa Covell, Jade Hazzard, Leighanne Sullivan, Haana Suero, Samantha Spisak, Kiera Peterson and Eliza Worth.

Although Bucknell did not have any novice boats, the Bombers entered two in the race, ensuring valuable experience.

The first Novice 8 – coxswain Emily Lighthall, Cyerra Adams, Edie McRoberts, Kelsey Lavin, Bella Bantz, Olivia Acuna, Laura Trainor, Zoey Sprang and Joy Rutt – posted a time of 22:00 for seventh overall.

The Bombers' second Novice 8 boat came in eighth overall. The boat of coxswain Ellie Kuker, Sally Platt, Madalyn Blomkvist, Hannah McFarland, Ashleigh Schultz, Lauren Barnes, Willow Wolfe, Keeley Firinne and Autumn Michels raced to a time of 24:19.

Next Sunday, October 21, crew heads to Boston for the Head of the Charles, before both crew and sculling are back in action on Saturday, October 27 at the Head of the Fish in Saratoga Springs.
