Ithaca Sculling Opens the Fall Season Claiming Three Medals

9/21/2025 6:22:00 PM

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's rowing and sculling team welcomed RIT, the University of Rochester and the Cornell Rowing Club to the Ward Romer Boathouse this weekend for the 12th Annual Cayuga Small-boat Sprints.

Each crew races twice during the event – a 2k time trial, followed by a 1k head-to-head sprint. Winning times in each boat class are calculated by doubling each crew's 1k time and adding it to their 2k time, a format that opens doors for crews to swap overall finish positions by turning up the heat in the shorter piece. The racers enjoyed sunshine throughout the event, despite an increasing tailwind that challenged them in the second round of racing.

The IC 2x entries led the day, with the double of Kai Lincke & Hope Oliveira posting the fastest overall time in 15:21.8 over teammates Samantha Gallagher and Julia DiCostanzo, who came in second in 15:47.7.

Ithaca's 4x+ of Silberman, Emma Thorne, Winifred Kanayo-Ezenwata, Connor and Calla Bobak was positioned in third overall after the time trial, but was out-sprinted by RIT during the 1k piece. The Tigers reversed the margin held by the Bombers to earn the 4x+ medals with an time of 16:12.2, just ahead of Ithaca's 16:18.0.

Ithaca also claimed top honors in both 1x events.  Senior captain Emmeline Robinson finished first in the open 1x with a time of 17:43.8, with first year recruit Kate March right on her heels to win the lightweight 1x in 17:51.0.  Melanie Heim also tackled the 1x for the Bombers.

RIT and U of R took the top spots in the 2- event despite clean, aggressive runs by IC's entries of Claire Edwards/Anna Capodilupo and Mendoza Arias/Brandi Landis. The Cornell Rowing Club earned the medals in the M2x and W light 2x events.

The Bombers scullers are travelling to Vermont next weekend to race in the Green Mountain Head that is slated for Sunday, September 28.
