ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Both the sculling and sweep squads traveled to Rochester this weekend for the Head of the Genesee Regatta, a 5K head race known for its winding course and scenic setting. The day began with a rainbow arching over the river, followed by intermittent showers, but overall conditions were ideal for racing—cloud cover and a light tailwind helped push crews down the course.
The Bombers kicked off the day with a strong showing in the Women's Collegiate 4+ featuring
Cameron Silberman,
Stella Kartsonas,
Ava Connor,
Jasmina Vahle, and
Brandi Landis. The crew delivered a solid performance, finishing fifth with a time of 21:23.246.
Next up, the sculling team took to the water with three entries in the Women's Collegiate 1x. Senior
Kai Lincke led the group with a second-place finish in 22:15.589, followed closely by
Anna Capodilupo and CJ Owen, who placed third and fourth with times of 24:09.653 and 24:09.924, respectively.
Ithaca dominated the Women's Collegiate 2x, claiming both first and second place.
Hope Oliveira and
Julia DiCostanzo crossed the line in 20:41.612, followed by
Emmeline Robinson and
Emma Thorne in 21:03.901. The University of Rochester rounded out the podium in third with a time of 22:18.680.
The final sculling event of the day featured a quad composed of
Kaelyn Morandi,
Claire Edwards,
Melanie Heim,
Calla Bobak, and
Kate March, who raced to a gold medal finish in 21:21.940. They were followed by RIT and Clarkson, with times of 21:40.806 and 22:43.125, respectively.
Closing out the day was the Women's Collegiate 8+, marking the sweep team's first race of the season. A mix of new and returning athletes powered down the course to a seventh-place finish in 19:54.527, just behind St. Lawrence (19:47.292) and ahead of the University of Rochester (21:00.424). The lineup included
Smeena Gill,
Naomi Bozenski,
Maisie Sagaas,
Bryanna Mendoza Arias,
