Josh Rifkin helped Ithaca to a third-place finish at the Flower City Tournament

Rochester, N.Y. - The Ithaca men's tennis team (2-1) defeated Hobart (1-2) in the third place match at the season-opening Flower City Tournament in Rochester on Sunday. The Bombers swept all three doubles matches and won the first two singles matches in the sweep.

Junior Josh Rifkin (Homestead/Fort Wayne, Ind.) and senior Taylor Borda (West Morris-Mendham/Chester, N.J.) were 8-2 winners at first doubles and each won their singles matches to clinch the victory for Ithaca. Rifkin won 6-2, 6-1 at first singles and Borda won 7-6 (7-5), 6-1 at second singles.

Senior Daniel Wolk (The Field School/Potomac, Md.) and sophomore Jimmy Newton (Florida Virtual School/Englewood, Fla.) were 8-5 winners at second doubles and sophomore Mike Muraco (Fayetteville-Manlius/Manlius) and freshman Josh Berggrun (Orange/Pepper Pike, Ohio) won 8-2 at third doubles.

The Bombers were leading in three singles matches that were not played to completion since Ithaca earned enough points to win the dual match.

Ithaca will compete in the Middlebury Invitational next weekend.
