Women's Crew Wraps Up Solid Weekend at Knecht Cup

CHERRY HILL, N.J. – The Ithaca College women's crew concluded the 2019 Knecht Cup on the Cooper River in Cherry Hill, New Jersey on Sunday afternoon.
 
Ithaca's Varsity 8 boat - – coxswain Jennie Brian, Savannah Brija, Sarah Snow, Libby Ryan, Lauren O'Dell, Mackenzie Morean, Sierra Keat, Allison Arndt and Meredyth Busam – won the Petite Final with a time of 6:48.70 in a field of Division I schools. The Bombers narrowly edged Boston College, which raced to a time of 6:48.87 while Connecticut took third, followed by Georgetown, Wisconsin and UMass.
 
The second Varsity 8, featuring coxswain Olivia Southworth, Kelly Csernica, June Fortner, Allison Ritting, Greta O'Hara, Dania Bogdanovic, Izzy Ozkurt, Liza Caldicott and Ella Sarachan, finished third in the Petite Final, racing to a time of 7:34.02. Georgetown won the round in 7:14.41, while Harvard-Radcliffe took second with a time of 7:19.38.
 
In the first event of the day for IC, the Frosh/Novice 8 race, Ithaca's Novice 8 - coxswain Emily Lighthall, Edie McRoberts, Kelsey Lavin, Cyerra Adams, Laura Trainor, Maria Caminiti, Autumn Michels, Zoe Spang and Erin Traut – finished in fourth with a time of 7:55.60. The Bombers finished behind Boston University, which took first in 7:28.50, Army and Pittsburgh.
 
Day One
 
Ithaca's Varsity 8 boat – coxswain Jennie Brian, Savannah Brija, Sarah Snow, Libby Ryan, Lauren O'Dell, Mackenzie Morean, Sierra Keat, Allison Arndt and Meredyth Busam – took third place in heat one with a time of 6:46.33, earning a place in the semifinal round in the afternoon.
 
The Bombers were in the second heat of the semifinal and finished in 6:50.96, good for sixth place and a trip to tomorrow's petite final at 1 p.m. Ithaca will race against Boston College, Georgetown, Wisconsin, Connecticut and UMass.
 
The second Varsity 8 raced to a time of 7:24.73 to earn a spot in tomorrow's petite final. The boat of coxswain Olivia Southworth, Kelly Csernica, June Fortner, Allison Ritting, Greta O'Hara, Dania Bogdanovic, Izzy Ozkurt, Liza Caldicott and Ella Sarachan will face off with Harvard-Radcliffe and Georgetown tomorrow at 11:40 a.m.
 
Ithaca's Novice 8 won its heat and posted the second-fastest time of 7:29.85 to advance to tomorrow' final at 11 a.m. The boat of coxswain Emily Lighthall, Edie McRoberts, Kelsey Lavin, Cyerra Adams, Laura Trainor, Maria Caminiti, Autumn Michels, Zoe Spang and Erin Traut were second only to Boston University (7:11.85) and will race Rhode Island, Army, Boston University, Pittsburgh and UMass tomorrow.
 
Ithaca is back in action next Saturday, April 20, as the Bombers travel to Worcester, Mass. To compete against Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Trinity, Colby, Connecticut College and William Smith. Action is slated to begin at 8 a.m.
