Women’s Rowing Kicks off Season with the Cayuga Duals

ITHACA, N.Y. - The Ithaca College women's rowing team was back on the inlet to kick off their spring season at home with the Cayuga Duels on Sunday. The day started out with colder temperatures and breezy tailwind that remained throughout the day. The duals were selected for the first round, and for the second round the first-place teams raced each other and the same was for the second-place teams.
 
The Varsity 4+s were the first boats down the course, where Ithaca's lineup of Cameron Silberman (cox), Julia Sweet, Jamie Friedlander, Maeve Van Jura, and Lucy Marcus raced William Smith's Herons. The Bombers finished with a time of 9:31.33 to William Smith's 8:50.15. This was the only event for the Varsity 4+.
 
Next up the Ithaca 1V raced William Smith. Ithaca's 1V lineup consisted of Payton Fisch (cox), Emma Thorne, Annoura Stewart, Samantha Gallagher, Alexandra Catlin, Emmeline Robinson, Kai Lincke, Hope Oliveira, and Julia DiCostanzo. The Bombers fought hard down the whole course finishing with a time of 7:04.66. William Smith finished with a time of 6:50.41. The Bombers were set to race Skidmore who came in second in their first-round match up to Hamilton with times of 7:13.4 and 7:06.0 respectively.
 
The Ithaca 2V with Sarah Chraibi (cox), Carys Owen, Melanie Heim, Claire Edwards, Emily Murphy, Jasmina Vahle, Lauren Huber, Kate March, and Maisie Sagaas was the next to face the Herons. William Smith finished with a time of 7:08.39 and Ithaca crossed the line with a time of 7:39.9. The 2V was also set to race Skidmore in the second round; Skidmore and Hamilton finished with times of 7:45.5 and 7:13.4 respectively.
 
The 3V race was a three-boat race, with lanes 2 and 3 on stake boats and lane 1 with a drifting start. The 3V race had entries from Ithaca, Hamilton, and Skidmore. The Ithaca Bombers had a lineup of Kaelyn Morandi (cox), Ava Connor, Stella Kartsonas, Bryanna Mendoza Arias, Marie Nemeth, Katharine Sernick, Emmi Chen, Mya Veracka, and Naomi Bozenski. The Ithaca 3V had a great race pushing off of Hamilton and trying to walk back on William Smith. William Smith finished with a time of 7:15.89, the Bombers with a time of 7:25.23, and Hamilton with 7:32.78.
 
After the break, the Bombers were hungry for Round 2 of racing. The 1V was the first up with another Liberty League dual between Ithaca and Skidmore. The Ithaca Bombers got the jump off the start and were able to walk and stay ahead through the end with a time of 7:13.72. Skidmore finished with a time of 7:23.1.
 
The Ithaca 2V had some lineup switches for their second race against Skidmore. Ithaca finished with a time of 7:32.38 ahead of Skidmore's 7:44.56. This race concluded the day of racing for the women's team.

After a fun day of racing with a lot of alumni and fans cheering on the Bombers, they are excited to get back to working hard to improve for the next race. The Bombers will be back on the Cayuga Inlet to face off with University of Rochester and Rochester Institute of Technology next Saturday, April 6. The Bombers will also be celebrating the members of the senior class.
