Ithaca Women's Swim & Dive Team Outscores Rochester on Senior Day

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca women's swimming & diving team defeated Rochester 204-96 Saturday afternoon and set three Hill Center Pool records in the final meet scheduled for the longtime home of Bomber swimming & diving.

Ithaca's 400-yard medley relay team began the meet with a victory as the quartet of junior Missy Keesler (Union-Endicott/Endicott), sophomore Madi Sherry (Hamburg/Orchard Park), sophomore Carly Jones (Liverpool/Liverpool) and senior Sheila Rhoades (Dryden/Dryden) won in a pool-record time of 4:03.13

Rhoades also posted individual-event victories in the 50-yard freestyle (23.95 seconds) and 100 free (52.37 seconds). Her time in both freestyle events set pool records and met the NCAA B qualifying standard. Jones won the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:30.30 and the 200-yard individual medley in 2:11.59. Sherry won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:09.26. Keesler was touched-out in the 200-yard backstroke. She finished second by a margin of one one-hundredth of a second with a time of 2:14.01.

Three Ithaca freshmen also contributed event wins. Fiona Mancuso (Hershey/Hummelstown, Pa.) was a double-winner in butterfly events. She won the 200 fly in 2:18.34 and 100 fly in 1:01.71. Lindsey Davenport (Ithaca/Newfield) won the 500-yard freestyle in 5:28.96. Kate Sessler (Livonia/Livonia) was first in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:01.00 and second in the 100 free in 56.14 seconds.

On the 1-meter diving board, junior Jodi Costello (Framingham/Framingham, Mass.) placed first with a score of 253.75 and graduate student Naomi Mark (Dansville/Dansville) was second with 246.60 points. That duo also placed first and second on the 3-meter board with Costello scoring 238.35 and Mark scoring 236.65.

Ithaca closed the meet by winning the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:40.75 as freshman Elizabeth Gawrys (Ballston Spa/Ballston Spa), Sessler, senior Joanna Ferreri (Niskayuna/Niskayuna) and Rhoades comprised the winning team.

It was Ithaca's final home meet of the season, and the final meet scheduled for the Hill Center Pool. Ithaca honored its 11 seniors at the meet. The senior class includes Emily Britz (Shenendehowa/Clifton Park), Caitlyn Elder (Drury/North Adams, Mass.), Julie Erhart (Mt. St. Joseph/Wilmington, Del.), Joanna Ferreri (Niskayuna/Niskayuna), Emily Griffin (Madison West/Madison, Wis.), Katie Kaiser (Clarence/ Clarence Center), Maddie Kennedy (Head Royce/Alameda, Calif.), Naomi Mark (Dansville/Dansville), Sheila Rhoades (Dryden/Dryden), Jillian Santer (East Longmeadow/East Longmeadow, Mass.) and Sarah Winder (Garfield/Seattle, Wash.).

Ithaca returns to dual-meet competition Saturday at Alfred.
