Baseball Places Nine on All-Liberty League Teams

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Liberty League released its postseason awards for the baseball season on May 16 and nine members of the Ithaca College program landed on one of the teams announced. IC had three players on the first team, two on the second team and four on honorable mention.

The Bombers won their second straight Liberty League championship on May 13 with a 6-4 win over RIT to earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship. IC will head to the Cortland Regional with a 28-14 record.

First Team

Kyle Lambert, the 2022 Liberty League Pitcher of the Year, repeats as a first-team after another exceptional season. Lambert is currently 6-2 on the season with a 2.91 ERA in 80.1 innings pitched with 93 strikeouts to just 20 walks. He has held opponents to a .237 average this season and enters the NCAA Regional just three strikeouts shy of tying his own school record, which he set last season.

Ethan Rothstein had a breakout junior campaign and was one of the top bats in IC's lineup all season. Rothstein has started all 42 games, most of those at third base, and ranks second on the team with 41 RBI, 41 runs scored, 12 doubles and seven home runs. He's also third in average at .353 and hits with 55.

Garrett Callaghan returned to South Hill for his final year of eligibility in 2023 and did not disappoint. Callaghan is six RBI shy of tying the school record as he has 62 on the season, to go along with a team-best 47 runs scored, 15 doubles and 14 home runs. He also leads the team with 29 walks, a .767 slugging percentage and .479 on-base percentage and is second on the team with a .384 average.

Second Team

Garrett Bell, who served as a relief pitcher for most of the 2022 season, stepped into a starting role as a senior and tossed 51.0 innings with 47 strikeouts and a 2-3 record and 4.59 ERA. In three of his 10 starts this season, Bell did not allow an earned run.

Louis Fabbo earned his third straight second-team honor from the Liberty League. Fabbo leads IC with a .394 average and 65 hits, which is tops in the Liberty League. He is also second on the squad in runs scored with 41, while he is third in RBI (39), doubles (10) and home runs (5).

Honorable Mention

Colin Leyner continued the stellar start to his IC career as he earned a spot on the honorable mention team as a sophomore. Leyner is 7-4 on the season with a 3.59 ERA in 72.2 innings pitched with two complete games. He has struck out 57 batters to just 17 walks and is now 14-5 in his career on South Hill.

Matt Chase, the Liberty League Tournament Most Outstanding Player, was one of the top relievers in the league this season. Chase is 4-2 on the year over 14 appearances with two saves and a 3.82 ERA. He has thrown 33.0 innings with 28 strikeouts.

Matt Fabian battled through some injuries this season and appeared in 30 games. Despite missing 12 contests, he was honored as a utility player and is batting .310 on the year with 22 runs scored and 17 RBI.

Colin Shashaty was recognized as a designated hitter and has added a spark to the IC lineup since joining the starting nine. Shashaty has played in 31 games with 13 starts and is batting .500 on the year with 38 hits in 76 at bats. He has scored 23 runs, to go along with 19 RBI and eight stolen bases.
