WORCESTER, Mass. – The Ithaca College men's rowing team hit the road for their first road trip of the spring season. The just over five-hour trip allowed the Bombers to face off against some fresh faces including WPI, Trinity, and Colby.
The racing stretched six lanes wide and took place on Lake Quinsigamond. The weather was mixed throughout the day with clouds scattered throughout the sky.
The first race of the day for the Bombers featured the first varsity eight. This week's 1V crew featured the same lineup as last weekend, including Caroline Grass, Jake Lentz, Gregg Seiz, Dehron Smith, Wesley Hoglin, Henry Grant, James Ross, Griffin Hunt, and Seth Freeman.
Ithaca faced off against the top boats from WPI, Trinity, and Colby. The Bombers finished fourth overall with a final time of 6:24.5 behind WPI who went 6:15.2.
Next up for IC was the second varsity eight. The lineup included Miles Kenaston, Riley Maynard, Jonah Alefantis, Aidan Gardner, Cameron Stanford, Tristan Dole, Bryce Williston, Maxwell Vallino, and Caleb Grassi.
The 2V lined up against Trinity and WPI. The 2V finished behind Trinity by a margin of about 11 seconds. The Bombers finished with a final time of 6:30.18 compared to Trinity's 6:18.98.
The last race of the day for Ithaca was the varsity four. The fairly novice crew raced against two entries from WPI. The Bombers boat featured Sami Smith, Calvin LaPierre, Ethan Revis, Cameron Strong, and Matthew Doherty. The four took second place behind WPI and finished with a final time of 7:28.86. WPI's A boat completed the course in 7:24.46.
All in all, the Bombers had some competitive racing on the first road trip of the season. Next up, the Bombers will train throughout the week for next weekend's race with Hamilton College. The team will travel to Clinton, N.Y. for a head-to-head competition with the Continentals. Racing is scheduled to begin around 10 a.m.
