YORK, Pa. – The Bombers took care of business as they were nearly perfect as the Ithaca College wrestling program still has eight wrestlers in contention in semifinals matchups at the conclusion of day one at the 13
th Annual New Standard Invitational.
Ithaca as a team put together 52.5 points with No. 17 Johnson & Wales in second (50 pts.) and No. 9 TCNJ in third (44 pts.). No. 14 York who is hosting the event sit in eighth out of the 14 teams competing.
SEMIFINALISTS
- Isaias Torres competing at 133 lbs. kicked off his meet with a quick first period fall. He won his second bout taking it by an 11-4 decision before he really put together a strong match besting Wesley Wydick to get to the semifinals by major decision, 12-2.
- Luis Hernandez (141 lbs) who his first bout 4-1 and then beat Brockport's Marquis Larmond also by major decision scoring the 14-1 win.
- At 149 lbs, Matthew Beyer had a first round bye and in his first matchup and then he scored a fall in 4:00 over Jackson Higgins. To get to tomorrow's semifinals, he beat Steven's Pasquale Vizzoni.
- There will be two IC's wrestlers in the semifinals at 157 with Travis Jones and Wenchard Pierre-Louis putting away the competition. A highlight within the bracket was Jones putting together back-to-back falls.
- Jackson Gray scored a fall (7:18) over Steven's James Snyder, avenging an earlier season loss. He paved his way to the semifinals by defeating Anthony Taylor by a 10-4 decision. First year Konrad Parker impressed at 174 lbs., he won his first matchup by an 8-6 decision and against Averett's Nathan Mallery it was even closer, but Parker squeaked out the 3-2 decision.
- At 197 lbs., Eze Chukwuezi was his dominant self, scoring back-to-back falls over Ayden Bishoff (2:22) and then Jaleel Jones (5:54).
