Women's Crew Has Strong Showing at National Invitational Rowing Championships

WORCESTER, Mass.
– The Ithaca College women's crew competed in the National Invitational Rowing Championships on Sunday afternoon on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass.
 
In the Third Varsity 8 race, Ithaca had two boats in the mix. The Bombers' A boat – coxswain Michele Hyland, Ella Sarachan, Sophie Westfield, Noa Covell, Samantha Spisak, Haana Suero, Kiera Peterson, Leighanne Sullivan and Mikayla Henry – finished fifth in its heat to advance to the Third Level Final. Ithaca went on to win that final with a time of 7:39.144, edging second-place Colby which finished in 7:40.232.
 
The Novice 8 took third in its heat with a time of 7:31.365 to advance to the afternoon's Petite Final. The boat of coxswain Emily Lighthall, Edie McRoberts, Kelsey Lavin, Cyerra Adams, Izzy Ozkurt, Maria Caminiti, Laura Trainor, Eliza Worst and Autumn Michels went on to finish fourth in the Petite Final with a time of 7:48.166. Wesleyan won the race in 7:34.190.
 
The Bombers' Second Varsity 8 – coxswain Olivia Southworth, Dania Bogdanovic, Devi de Oliveria, Allison Ritting, Libby Ryan, Mackenzie Morean, Greta O'Hara, Nicola Vigliotti and Lauren O'Dell – raced in the first on three heats, taking third with a time of 7:11.817. IC then moved on to win the Petite Final with a time of 7:17.200, edging RIT which finished second in 7:17.496.
 
In the final race of the day for Ithaca, the Varsity 8 raced in the third of three heats. Ithaca's boat of coxswain Jennie Brian, Savannah Brija, Sarah Snow, Allison Arndt, Meredyth Busam, Sierra Keat, June Fortner, Kelly Csernica and Liza Caldicott finished second in its heat with a time of 6:54.863 to advance to the afternoon's Grand Final.
 
The Bombers went on to finish fifth in the Grand Final with a time of 6:58.405. Bates College won the field in 6:46.525, followed by Wellesley (6:53.387), WPI (6:54.941) and Wesleyan (6:56.813).
 
Ithaca is back in action at the NCAA Rowing Championships which begin on May 31 and end June 1. This year's championships will be held in Indianapolis, Indiana.
