ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's cross country team will travel to Annandale-on-Hudson this Saturday, November 2 to compete in the program's third Liberty League Championship at Bard College at 12 p.m.
Last season, St. Lawrence took the top spot at the championship race, while the Bombers placed fifth with a team point total of 117 points. Senior
Sarah Rudge was the only top ten finisher for the team in eighth overall, while seniors
Parley Hannan and
Maggie Nickerson and junior
Kelly Farrell also made appearances.
This year, Ithaca will face off against four teams nationally ranked by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) - No. 15 RPI, No. 21 Vassar, No. 24 Rochester and No. 27 RIT. All four teams are ranked within the top five spots in the Atlantic regional poll.
The team has finished in the top five spots in five out six meets this season, totaling 847 points. The Bombers' best finish came as runners-up in front of 10 teams at the Hamilton Short Course on September 7.
Hannan looks to lead the team into the championships this weekend. As the first female athlete to repeat as USTFCCCA Athlete of the Week two weeks in a row, Hannan solidified herself as one of the top runners in the conference. The senior has picked up first place wins in three races this season while notching top three finishes in all five races she's run.
Hannan took first place at the Connecticut College Invitational, toping 365 runners and setting a course record with an individual time of 20:52.2. Hannan has also already won the NCAA Pre-National meet on October 12 at St. Lawrence.
Hannan, Rudge, Nickerson and other seniors, including
Lindsay Scott,
Annie Morrison,
Jessica Fritzsch and
Maria Matkoski, will all be making their final appearance in a conference race on Saturday. Junior
Lizz Eberhardt and sophomores Lauren Lobell,
Autumn Michels, and
Zoe Hadley could also make appearances for the Bombers.
After putting up positive rookie seasons, freshmen
Ally Bukstel,
Ava Fowler,
Meredith Garrity, and
Rachel Rose could all see entries in their first Liberty League Championship race.
Next, the Bombers will head up to the North Country on November 16 for the NCAA Atlantic Regional for a chance to qualify for the NCAA Championships the following weekend in Louisville, Ky.
