BROCKPORT, N.Y. - The Ithaca College women's cross country team traveled up to Sweden Town Park in Brockport to compete in the Tom Balon Alumni Classic 5k. Despite missing one of their top runners, the squad battled closely with some of the top teams in the Niagara region, coming away with fifth place, only 21 points behind SUNY Brockport who came away with the victory.
The Bombers were led by two top-ten finishers, with senior
Jessica Goode placing seventh with a time of 19:29.6 and junior
Lola Gitlin finishing ninth in 19:37.4. Goode is a three-year varsity runner for the Bombers and competed at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships in 2022. This was a two-second personal best on this course for Goode. Gitlin, who is a transfer from Long Island University made her collegiate cross country debut after playing soccer the previous two falls.
The scoring five was rounded out by three returning varsity runners. Sophomore
Hannah Pawlowski took 17th in 20:00.00, a 43 second cross country personal best in the 5,000-meter distance. Senior
Kayleigh Milligan ran 20:20.2 for 25th for a four second collegiate personal best and senior
Logan Brasacchio ran 20:23.1 for 28th.
The top seven was rounded out by first-year
Erika Doran who ran 20:43.8 for 37th place in her collegiate debut and sophomore
Nicole Tellechea who finished 51st in 21:26.4. Tellechea was not on the varsity squad at regionals as a first-year last fall and is a runner that is looking to take the next step this season.
The team was without senior team captain Joy Peterson who is nursing a hamstring injury. Peterson was a top 15 finisher at the NCAA Division III Region Cross Country Championships last fall and qualified for the National Championship meet.
The Bombers will look to build on this performance when they move up to the 6,000-meter racing distance in two weeks at the Yellowjacket XC Invitational in Rochester on September 20.
