TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships took place on November 23 at the LaVern Gibson Cross Country Course and the Ithaca College women's cross country team was represented by junior
Joy Petersen. Rose-Hulman served as the host institution for the championship races.
Petersen placed 219th overall out of 290 runners on the 6K course with a time of 23:11.7. She completed the first 1000 meters of the race in 3:21 and sat in 199th place before falling back to 233rd at the 3K midway point.
Over the final 3000 meters, Petersen made a late charge and passed 14 other runners to place 219th and was in a three-way photo finish with Kristen Werner of Lynchburg and Sylvie Najarian of Hamilton.
MIT won the team championship with 128 points, while Faith Duncan of Wilmington was the individual national champion with a time of 20:16.5.
