ROCHESTER, N.Y. -
It was statement day for the Ithaca College women's cross country team today at the Yellowjacket XC Invitational at Genesee Valley Park. Despite being ranked 8th in this week's Niagara regional rankings, they beat numerous teams ranked ahead of them and took home a second place finish in their first 6k race of the season.

The Bombers were led by senior Jessica Goode who recorded a top 20 finish, placing 13th with a time of 22:50.7. Goode ran over 24 minutes last fall at this meet and looks strong in the early going for the Bombers.

Lola Gitlin, who won Liberty League Rookie of the Week the week of September 8 had a strong 6k debut, running 23:16.3 for 23rd. She was closely followed by senior Logan Brasacchio who finished 25th and ran 23:18.2, over one minute faster than last year and nearly a PR in her first 6k of the season.

Sophomore Hannah Pawlowski ran 23:22.3 for 31st place, running a 41 second personal best in her first 6k of the season. Pawlowski ran over 25 minutes at this meet last year and looks poised to have a big season for this Bombers team that is majority upperclassmen led. The scoring was rounded out by Kayleigh Milligan. The senior finished 37th, running a time of 23:39.8 for an eight second personal best.

Some other notable performances include senior Joy Petersen and sophomore Nicole Tellechea. Petersen made her season debut after dealing with a hamstring injury. That same injury held Petersen out of this meet last fall so she is already ahead of schedule as she looks to get back to the NCAA XC Championship. Tellechea, who was in the varsity seven at the opener 5k ran 25:24.8. This was a 16 second 6k personal best and a 41 second improvement from last fall.

The Bombers are expecting a jump in the regional rankings as they look ahead to the Lehigh University Paul Short run in two weeks where they will take on competition across multiple division levels.
