PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The second-ranked Ithaca College gymnastics team got back into competition action on Sunday afternoon when the squad traveled to Philadelphia, Pa., to take part in the annual Temple University Quad Invitational. The Bombers turned in another solid effort on the day, posting a final team score of 185.750 that was good for third-place in the four-team event.

Notably the Bombers easily surpassed the score of the other Division III program in attendance at the meet, easily surpassing Ursinus, which tallied a 174.175 on the day. Finishing ahead of Ithaca on the afternoon were the event-hosts, as Temple registered a 194.150. Other Division I program, University of Pennsylvania, came in second-place with a 190.100.

Headlining the day for Ithaca was one gymnast who set a personal record, while five gymnasts accounted for six total Top-10 finishes posted on the day. First-year Julia O'Sullivan continued her dynamite start to her collegiate career, rocking her uneven bars routine to post a personal-best 9.550. Also accounting for Top-10 finishes on the day in addition to O'Sullivan's bars routine were: sophomore Marin Sheridan (Vault), senior Rachel Lee (Bars), junior Baylie Trammell (Bars, Floor Exercise), and senior Carolyn Nichols (Floor Exercise).

Ithaca got its day started on the balance beam rotation. Typically the team's strongest event, the Bombers struggled to reach the heights they are capable of, checking shy of the 46.000 mark with a 45.925. Leading the group was sophomore Katie Holcomb, who carded a 9.475 in a 13th-place finish. Senior Nina Bustamante was right behind Holcomb in 14th-place, posting a 9.325. Junior Paige Landes tied for 17th with a 9.225, while first-year Amelia Bailey also completed a solid routine with a 9.200 to come in 19th. Sophomore Kylee Black and junior Cassidy Marquette unfortunately had falls on the event, turning in scores of 8.700 and 8.350, respectively. The duo would finish in 22nd and 23rd.

For the second straight week, floor exercise was Ithaca's strongest event. Two Bombers finished within the Top-10, while all of IC's six lineup entrants carded scores in above 9.100.

Nichols paced the group for the second consecutive week, as the reigning All-American continued to execute flawlessly in the event. She posted a 9.675 to tie for sixth-place and the top spot among Division III competitors at the meet. Trammell also carded a Top-10 effort with a season-best 9.625 to tie for eighth. First-year Mackenzie Kennedy also kept her strong start going with a 9.550 (13th-place), while Marquette bounced back from the wobble on beam with a 9.450 on floor (14th-place). IC's group was capped with senior Victoria Gery registering at 9.325 (T-18th), while sophomore Alexis Griffin posted a 9.125 to come in 20th.

Wrapping back around to the vault for the third rotation of the day, Ithaca again encountered a couple stumbles, which likely kept the Bombers from keeping pace with Temple and Penn. IC had a couple misses in the event, while only Sheridan was able to score within the Top-10 on the afternoon.

The sophomore turned in one of her best efforts of her fledgling collegiate career to lead Ithaca on the day. She posted a 9.375 that was just shy of her personal-best from her rookie season, finishing in ninth-place on the day. Classmate Courtney Christoforo continued to turn in solid efforts on the apparatus, marking a 9.225 to come in a tie for 15th. Marquette and O'Sullivan also topped 9.100-or-better on the afternoon. Marquette finished with a 9.200 to tie for 19th, while O'Sullivan equaled the 9.100 mark to finish in 21st. Nichols failed to land her challenging double-front, finishing with an 8.850, while Trammell also did not land her dismount to score an 8.800.

The Bombers wrapped up the afternoon on a high note during their final rotation on the uneven bars. Ithaca showed its best improvement from the season opener in the event, raising the score by over a half-point to post a 46.450 as a team. That also correlated on the individual standings, with three gymnasts breaking into the Top-10 on the day.

O'Sullivan led the group with her personal-best 9.550, finishing in ninth place. Lee and Trammell tied for 10th, both scoring 9.450. Sophomore Lauren Hansen also topped 9.100, registering a 9.125 in a tie for 14th-place. IC's misses on the event came from Holcomb and Christoforo, as the second-years posted scores of 8.875 and 8.700, respectively.

Ithaca returns to action on Saturday, February 2, when the squad hits the road to face Brockport in a dual meet beginning at 1:00 p.m.
