Baseball Team Dispatches Stevens 14-0

ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Ithaca College baseball team (22-8-1, 11-4 Empire 8) stayed atop the Empire 8 standings with a 14-0 shellacking of visiting Stevens (20-16, 5-9 Empire 8) Sunday at Freeman Field. The Bombers scored 11 runs in the sixth inning and held the Ducks to two runs in 25 innings of their three-game weekend sweep.

Ithaca pounded out 17 hits and Bomber hitters drew five walks and were hit by three pitches. Senior second baseman Matt Keller led the offensive barrage with a four-for-four performance that included three doubles.

Sophomore Pat Lemmo pitched another gem, allowing four hits over seven shutout innings. He fanned seven and didn't walk a batter. Lemmo is now 8-1 with a 1.93 ERA.

Sophomore David Jasukonis and senior Ian Rebhan each followed with a shutout inning. The shutout was Ithaca's fifth of the season.

Keller's three doubles raised his season total to 18, tying the school record shared by Kurt DeLuca (1985), Tim Wilson (1988) and Rob Coleman (1992). He led off the third and fifth innings with doubles and hit a run-scoring double during Ithaca's marathon sixth inning.

In the sixth, the Bombers scored 11 runs on seven hits, three walks, two hit batters, two wild pitches and a passed ball. Ithaca sent 15 batters to the plate and substituted for their entire starting line-up during the inning –
junior left fielder Andrew Turner singled to lead off the inning; freshman Christian Brown ran for Turner and was followed by eight consecutive pinch hitters.

The inning included a two-run pinch-hit double by sophomore Jeffrey Mathers , bases-loaded walks by Brown and junior catcher Kevin Primm , run-scoring doubles by Keller and senior center fielder Mike Rosenbaum and RBI singles from senior right fielder Teagen Barresi and senior infielder Jarrod Surine.

Barresi and Rosenbaum had two hits apiece. Freshman designated hitter Vinnie Gneo finished with three runs batted in. His two-run single in the bottom of the first opened the scoring.

Stevens pitchers hit three Ithaca batters, raising the Bombers' season total to a school-record 70 hit batsmen.

Ithaca plays a non-conference game at St. Lawrence Wednesday.
