Utica, N.Y. -- The Ithaca baseball team (18-4-1, 8-1 Empire 8) extended its winning streak to seven with a 14-4 win at Utica (4-20, 1-7 Empire 8) Sunday afternoon. The win gave the Bombers a three-game sweep of the Pioneers on the weekend and Ithaca totaled 38 runs over the three games. Ithaca remains in first place in the Empire 8.
Senior third baseman
Teagen Barresi and second baseman Mathers each had three hits to lead the Ithaca offense.
Barresi was 3-for-6 with a double, three RBIs and a run scored.
Mathers was 3-for-4 with three doubles. He scored twice and drove in a run. Ithaca capitalized on seven Utica errors and scored five unearned runs.
Bomber freshman starting pitcher
Jimmy Wagner was very effective over six shutout innings and earned the win.
Wagner allowed just two hits with five strikeouts and one walk. Senior pitcher
Tucker Healy pitched the final two innings and recorded four strikeouts and allowed just one hit.
Ithaca scored one run or more in the first, third, fourth, fifth and seventh innings to build a 13-0 lead. The Bombers return to action Tuesday at 4 p.m. when they host Rochester.
