Redlands, Calif. -- The Ithaca College baseball team (7-3) rallied from four runs down to close to within a run in the ninth but host Redlands (10-10) held on for a 6-5 win Sunday. Despite the loss, the Bombers wrapped up their winningest spring trip ever, going 5-2 on the California trip. Ithaca opens its home season Friday, hosting Keuka at Freeman Field.
Ithaca scored three times over the final two innings and put the tying run on third with one out before the Bulldogs thwarted the Bomber rally by retiring the last two hitters.
Sophomore third baseman
Colby Gee led off the eighth with the fourth of his career-best five hits, singling up the middle. He stole second and scored on a single by junior left fielder
Andrew Turner.
In the ninth, second baseman
Matt Keller was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and senior right fielder
Teagen Barresi followed with a double. Singles by senior first baseman
Mike Preite and Gee brough both runners home and put runners on first and third before Redlands escaped with the win.
Gee's career-best five hit explosion paced the Bomber offense.
Barresi doubled twice.
His first double scored a pair of runs in the fifth to put the Bombers on the board. Sophomore shortstop
Tim Locastro was hit by a pitch and
senior center fielder
Mike Rosenbaum drew a walk. One out later,
Barresi's double to left brought both runners to the plate.
