Utica, N.Y. -- The baseball team (15-13, 6-6 Empire 8) exploded for season-best totals of 17 runs and 25 hits in a romp over host Utica (8-25, 5-9 Empire 8) Saturday.
Senior first baseman
Trevor Wolf (Lansing/Freeville), sophomore designated hitter
Mike Rosenbaum (Fayetteville-Manlius/Fayetteville) and third baseman
David Ahonen (Victor/Farmington), a graduate student, all had three-hit games.
Ahonen and
Wolf both scored three runs;
Wolf and
Rosenbaum had three runs batted in apiece.
Ahonen's three hits included his team-leading fifth home run. It was the 15th of his career, leaving him one short of the program's all-time top 10.
Freshman shortstop
Tim LoCastro (Auburn/Auburn) doubled twice and scored a pair of runs. Senior center fielder
Rob Zappia (Greece Athena/Rochester) singled and tripled.
Junior left fielder
Teagen Barresi (Lansing/Lansing), sophomore
Kevin Primm (North Babylon/North Babylon) and freshman
Bill Collins (East Hampton/East Hampton) added two hits apiece;
Primm and
Collins entered the game in the fifth and sixth innings, respectively.
Senior
Aaron Sapp (Niskayuna/Niskayuna) allowed five hits over seven innings to pick up his team-leading fifth win of the season. He fanned six Pioneers.
The two teams play a noon doubleheader Sunday.
