Bombers Pound Out 25 Hits To Bludgeon Utica

Utica, N.Y. -- The baseball team (15-13, 6-6 Empire 8) exploded for season-best totals of 17 runs and 25 hits in a romp over host Utica (8-25, 5-9 Empire 8) Saturday.

Senior first baseman Trevor Wolf (Lansing/Freeville), sophomore designated hitter Mike Rosenbaum (Fayetteville-Manlius/Fayetteville) and third baseman David Ahonen (Victor/Farmington), a graduate student, all had three-hit games. Ahonen and Wolf both scored three runs; Wolf and Rosenbaum had three runs batted in apiece.

Ahonen's three hits included his team-leading fifth home run. It was the 15th of his career, leaving him one short of the program's all-time top 10.

Freshman shortstop Tim LoCastro (Auburn/Auburn) doubled twice and scored a pair of runs. Senior center fielder Rob Zappia (Greece Athena/Rochester) singled and tripled.

Junior left fielder Teagen Barresi (Lansing/Lansing), sophomore Kevin Primm (North Babylon/North Babylon) and freshman Bill Collins (East Hampton/East Hampton) added two hits apiece; Primm  and Collins entered the game in the fifth and sixth innings, respectively.

Senior Aaron Sapp (Niskayuna/Niskayuna) allowed five hits over seven innings to pick up his team-leading fifth win of the season. He fanned six Pioneers.

The two teams play a noon doubleheader Sunday.
