Ithaca, N.Y. - The Ithaca women's golf team won its season-opening dual match 358-405 over William Smith Saturday afternoon at Country Club of Ithaca. The Bombers' score of 358 was 12 strokes better than the previous team best, set in the 2009-10 season.
Freshman
Amanda Failla was Ithaca's best performer, scoring 85 over the par-72 layout that played to 5,870 yards.
Failla's round was the lowest ever recorded by an Ithaca golfer over the program's two-year varsity history. She shared match medalist honors with a William Smith player, and
Failla posted a 39 on the front nine with six pars and three bogeys, the best nine-hole score of the day on either side by any player.
Sophomore
Jackie Young (Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake/Burnt Hills) was Ithaca's second player under 90 with a score of 88 on consistent scores of 44 on each nine. Sophomore
Brooke Llobell (East Islip/Great River) posted 90 and Ithaca's final two scoring players both shot 95 - senior
Lauren Ryan (Concord/Concord, N.H.) and sophomore
Samantha Liberty (Rockland/Rockland, Mass.).
Senior Christie O'Shea
(John Jay/Hopewell Junction) posted 103 and freshman
Elma Gonzalez scored in competing as individuals.
The Bombers will compete in the St. Lawrence Invitational next weekend.
