School-Record Score for Women's Golf in Win

Ithaca, N.Y. - The Ithaca women's golf team won its season-opening dual match 358-405 over William Smith Saturday afternoon at Country Club of Ithaca. The Bombers' score of 358 was 12 strokes better than the previous team best, set in the 2009-10 season.

Freshman Amanda Failla was Ithaca's best performer, scoring 85 over the par-72 layout that played to 5,870 yards. Failla's round was the lowest ever recorded by an Ithaca golfer over the program's two-year varsity history. She shared match medalist honors with a William Smith player, and Failla posted a 39 on the front nine with six pars and three bogeys, the best nine-hole score of the day on either side by any player.

Sophomore Jackie Young (Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake/Burnt Hills) was Ithaca's second player under 90 with a score of 88 on consistent scores of 44 on each nine. Sophomore Brooke Llobell (East Islip/Great River) posted 90 and Ithaca's final two scoring players both shot 95 - senior Lauren Ryan (Concord/Concord, N.H.) and sophomore Samantha Liberty (Rockland/Rockland, Mass.).

Senior Christie O'Shea (John Jay/Hopewell Junction) posted 103 and freshman Elma Gonzalez scored in competing as individuals.

The Bombers will compete in the St. Lawrence Invitational next weekend.
