Stevenson, Md.--Behind a complete game from senior Tom Fishback (Penfield/Webster), the Bombers (2-7) defeated Stevenson (12-6) Friday evening. Five Ithaca batters had multi-hit games in the win.
Fishback did not allow an earned run in the game, allowing just an unearned score in the second inning. He struck out five batters, walking just two,
Ithaca took the lead for good in the third inning. Senior Mike Armstrong (Penfield/Penfield) led off with a single, stole second and moved to third on a passed ball. A double from junior Rob Zappia (Greece Athena/Rochester) plated Armstrong to put the Bombers up 2-1.
It remained a one run game until the sixth, when senior #T.J. Abone# (Rome Free Academy/Rome) scored on a single from sophomore Matt Preite (Hopkinton/Hopkinton, Mass.).
The Bombers blew the game open in the seventh, plating four runs. Ithaca picked up just two hits in the inning, but took advantage of two Mustang errors, a wild pitch and a passed ball. Zappia, Abone and juniors Trevor Wolf (Lansing/Freeville) andDavid Ahonen (Victor/Victor) scored in the frame.
Wolf picked up three hits in the game, with Zappia, Abone and junior Matt Streich (East Greenwich/East Greenwich) each adding two. Abone scored and drove in a pair of runs.
The Bombers return to action Saturday at Mary Washington.
