Men’s Rowing Faces Off Against Hamilton and Colgate on the Erie Canal

ROME, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's rowing team traveled to Rome, New York today to face off against crews from Hamilton College and Colgate University. The Bombers competed in a variety of race categories in head-to-head heats.

The race, hosted by Hamilton College, took place on a three-laned course along the Erie Canal. The course is a straight waterway that is wooded along the sides with few landmarks. Racing conditions were tough with a tailwind coming down the course. There were clouds throughout the course with on and off rain throughout the day.

The first race of the day for the Bombers featured the second varsity eight. This week's lineup included Caroline Grass, Aidan Gardner, Jonah Alefantis, James Ross, Cameron Stanford, Tristan Dole, Bryce Williston, Cameron Strong, and Caleb Grassi.

The 2V took first with a final time of 6:14.0 compared to Hamilton's 6:25.8. The boat had a strong piece and finished the race with open water over the Continentals.

Next up, was the first varsity eight. The Bomber's top boat went up against the Continentals. The lineup consisted of Miles Kenaston, Riley Maynard, Jake Lentz, Wesley Hoglin, Henry Grant, Dehron Smith, Gregg Seiz, Griffin Hunt, and Seth Freeman.

As was the case with the 2V, the 1V also finished the course with open water. The Bombers finished with a race time of 6:09.3 compared to the Continental's 6:18.8.

The 1V and 2V would both take the course again, later in the day, and go head-to-head with Colgate.
In the afternoon, the Bombers 1V fell to Colgate after finishing the course in 6:17.6 compared to Colgate's 5:53.0.

As for the 2V's afternoon race, the Bombers finished behind the Raiders with a final time of 6:23.4 compared to their opponent's 6:05.5.

The last racing action of the day for the Bombers featured the men's four. The crew raced against both Hamilton and Colgate. The lineup featured Sami Smith, Ethan Revis, Calvin LaPierre, Maxwell Vallino, and Matthew Doherty.

The four took second with a final time of 7:32.3. Colgate finished the course in 6:54.4 while Hamilton went 7:59.5.

Overall, the Bombers had a strong day on the racecourse. The team placed well in many races and finished with some good pieces, despite the tough conditions.

The team will train for a big weekend of racing next weekend. The Bombers will race twice over the weekend at both the Liberty League and New York State Rowing Championships. These races will be held in Saratoga Springs, New York and will take place on May 5 and 6. Both races will allow the Bombers to see a wider variety of competition.
