Nine Bombers Named 2026 Empacher-IRCA Scholar Athletes
The Ithaca College men's rowing team continued its tradition of excellence in the classroom as nine Bombers were recognized as 2026 Empacher-IRCA Scholar Athletes, the Intercollegiate Rowing Coaches Association (IRCA) announced.
The national recognition honors student-athletes who have demonstrated outstanding achievement both academically and competitively. To earn Scholar Athlete status, nominees must be in at least their second year of eligibility, compete in one of their program's top three varsity boats during the current season or at the IRA Championship, and maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher through the fall semester.

The nine selections highlight the continued success of the Bombers in developing student-athletes who excel in every aspect of the collegiate experience. Their recognition reflects countless hours of dedication in the classroom, on the water, and in pursuit of the high standards that define Ithaca College rowing.
The Empacher-IRCA Scholar Athlete Award is presented annually by the Intercollegiate Rowing Coaches Association to student-athletes from IRCA member institutions who exemplify academic achievement while competing at the highest levels of collegiate rowing.
Bryce Williston Repeats as Empacher-IRCA Second Team All-American

Bryce Williston ('26) has once again been recognized among the nation's elite, earning 2026 Empacher-IRCA Second Team All-America honors. It marks the second consecutive season that Williston has received All-America recognition from the Intercollegiate Rowing Coaches Association (IRCA).
The Empacher-IRCA All-America Team recognizes the top collegiate rowers and coxswains in the country based on their performances throughout the spring racing season. Student-athletes must compete in their institution's varsity boat, be nominated by their coaching staff, and are selected by the IRCA Board of Directors based on the success of their varsity boat, nomination rank within their institution, individual achievements, coach evaluations, and erg performance.
Williston's repeat selection places him among the nation's premier collegiate rowers and highlights another outstanding season representing the Bombers. Earning All-America honors in consecutive years is a testament to his consistency, work ethic, and impact on one of the country's top Division III rowing programs.

Justin Stangel. "To be recognized as an All-American for the second consecutive year speaks to the standard he has set for himself and the leadership he has brought to our program. He has worked tirelessly to become one of the top rowers in the country, and this honor is a well-deserved recognition of everything he has invested in our team."
Williston's honor continues a strong tradition of national recognition for Ithaca College men's rowing and reflects the program's commitment to competing at the highest level while developing exceptional student-athletes.
Ashan Anthonisz-Chandrasena Receives Jack R. Robinson Inspiration Award

Ashan Anthonisz-Chandrasena ('26) has been named the recipient of the 2026 Jack R. Robinson Inspiration Award, recognizing an athlete or coach who has demonstrated exceptional resilience, leadership, and impact on their team or community.
The award is presented annually to individuals who exemplify the drive and motivation to overcome adversity while making a meaningful contribution to their program. It is named in honor of Cornell heavyweight commodore and coxswain Jack Robinson.
Anthonisz-Chandrasena was recognized for his unwavering commitment to the Bombers program, consistently prioritizing team success and supporting his teammates despite personal challenges that limited his ability to compete.
"One of the things I admire most about Ashan is that he never allows adversity to become an excuse," said Head Coach
Justin Stangel. "Even when circumstances have prevented him from competing, he has remained fully invested in our team's success and the well-being of his teammates. His ability to overcome challenges while continuing to serve others is remarkable, and his character has had a lasting impact on everyone in our program."
The Jack R. Robinson Inspiration Award honors individuals across collegiate rowing who demonstrate resilience, leadership, and a lasting positive influence within their programs.
