MANHEIM, Pa. – On Thursday, March 31, the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) announced the 2022-23 Scholar All-America Team and individual honorees as 369 total student-athletes were honored with 88 institutions receiving awards.
NWCA Executive Director Mike Moyer praised the student-athletes, stating, "I am honored to recognize these outstanding individuals who have excelled not only in their athletic pursuits but also in their academic endeavors."
In the team competition, Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) led the field with a 3.767 GPA, followed closely by Heidelberg University with 3.76612 and Stevens Institute of Technology with 3.7344. Ithaca College under the direction of
Marty Nichols had the 22nd best GPA in Division III with a 3.5319 GPA.
The Bombers also had six student-athletes that earned Scholar All-American honors this season-
Eze Chukwuezi,
Matthew Beyer,
Jackson Gray,
Jeremy Mazzella,
Luis Hernandez and
Travis Jones. Beyer, Gray and Jones are each repeat winners for IC.
This past season, Ithaca College had a 14-3 overall record with
Eze Chukwuezi,
Matthew Beyer,
Wenchard Pierre-Louis and
Isaias Torres each punched tickets to nationals where Chukwuezi took home third-place at 197 lbs. earning an All-American finish.
