ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College gymnastics team got its 2023 season underway on Sunday, January 15 against The College at Brockport inside Ben Light Gymnasium and the Golden Eagles prevailed by a slim margin, 187.625 to 187.425. IC squared off against Brockport five different times last season with the average margin of victory at nearly four points.
Ithaca opened the competition on the vault and scored 47.025 to hold an early two-point lead over Brockport as the Golden Eagles totaled 45.025 on bars.
Skye Cohen got things started with a 9.300, followed by a 9.425 from
Meghan Bell.
Cassidy Gallivan then vaulted to a score of 9.275 and
Nicole Lonski highlighted the rotation for IC as she was awarded 9.675.
Kaylie Goodwin wrapped up the vault with a 9.350.
The Bombers then moved to bars and Brockport went over to the vault. IC totaled 45.525 as
Zoe Kyriakopoulos led the charge with a 9.700, which matched the highest total so far in the NCGA.
Marlena Bailey was awarded 9.400 and
Grace Montague began the event with a 9.325. Lonski and Goodwin each earned 8.550, while
Cameryn Nichols scored 8.325.
Ithaca's best rotation of the day came on the beam as the Bombers totaled 47.825. All six gymnasts scored over 9.025, as Nichols highlighted the routine with a 9.725, which is the top performance currently in the NCGA. Kyriakolpoulos turned in a 9.625, while Goodwin earned 9.550 and
Caitlin Pellegrino was close behind with a 9.525.
Nya Pauldon scored a 9.400, while
Corey Foster recorded a 9.025 in her first collegiate event.
Heading into the final rotation, IC trailed Brockport by four-tenths of a point (140.775 to 140.375). Nichols once again led the way with a 9.600, while Lonski turned in a performance of 9.550. Foster and Cohen were each awarded 9.475, while Bell had 8.950 and Goodwin scored 8.850.
The Bombers will return to action next Sunday, January 22 for a tri-meet at Ursinus College with Brockport.
