ITHACA, N.Y. - The Ithaca sculling team opened their season at home today at the Cayuga Sprints facing opponents from RIT, St. John Fisher, Cascadilla Boat Club and the University of Massachusetts.
Each crew raced a 2k time trial, followed by a 1k sprint. Winning times were calculated by doubling the sprint time of each crew & adding it to the time from their 2k time trial.
Top Finishes -
The most contested event of the day was the 2x (double), with all teams represented with over 14 entries. The IC duo of
Katrina Pohlman and
Taylor Volmrich posted the top IC time of the day (15:33.3), taking second place. The duo couldn't quite catch the eventual winners from UMass who finished with a top time of 15:05.9.
Ithaca's
Allison Arndt and
Amelia Phillips took home the top honors in the lw 2x (lightweight double), posting the third fastest overall time, just behind their teammates with a recorded time of 15:44.3.
IC took home another first place finish in the 4x+ (coxed quad) event (
Brenna Hanratty,
Erin Trojan,
Emmeline Robinson,
Anna Capodilupo and
Hailee Daunis) as they finished with a time of 15:56.8,
In addition, lightweight 1x (lightweight single),
Emma Anderson finished the 1k sprint with a time of 18:52.6 claiming another first place finish for the Bombers.
The 2- (pair) event was one of the closest contests of the day, with only 2 seconds dividing the 3 entries after the time trial. The A entry from UMass took advantage of the 1k sprint to snatch the medal spot from another UMass entry and the IC duo of
Laura Trainor and
Devi de Oliveira.
Next up, the Bombers will travel to compete in the Green Mountain Head Regatta in Putney, Vermont on October 2.
