Luis Saves Two Match Points to Lift Men’s Tennis 7-2 Over Nichols College

Box Score HILTON HEAD, S.C. - The Ithaca College men's tennis team defeated Nichols College 7-2 to open up the team's spring break trip. With the win, the Bombers improved to a perfect 5-0 record to start the season. 
 
All five singles wins for IC went to three sets, proving to be a competitive matchup between the two teams. Sophomore Nicolas Luis saved two match points to secure the team win for Ithaca in the first slot, 6-2, 4-6, 12-10 over Nichols' Giacomo Ghitti. 
 
Sophomores Deon Kraft and Eric Dubilirer took home the first doubles win of the day for the Bombers, defeating Bison opponents 8-6. With this afternoon's victory, the pair is the only doubles team for the Bombers with a perfect record so far this season. 
 
Graduate student Minos Stavrakas and sophomore Jacob Wachs grabbed the most dominant doubles win of the afternoon, dispatching Nichols opponents 8-1. 
 
Luis and his partner, senior Artem Khaybullin, fell to their opponents 5-8 in the third doubles slot. 
 
Kraft recorded the first singles win for IC, taking down Nichols' Moritz Kern 6-3, 4-6, 10-5. 
 
In the only singles loss of the afternoon, Dublirer fell to Nichols next, 5-7, 1-6 in the third spot after a competitive first set. 
 
Stavrakas followed behind Kraft, notching the next win for Ithaca in the second singles slot. After dropping the first set 5-7, the graduate student battled back to take the second dominantly 6-0 and grab the super tie-breaker 11-9. 
 
At fifth singles, Khaybullin secured another win for the Bombers. The senior bested the Bison's Santiago Perez 6-3, 4-6, 10-5. 
 
Wachs recorded the last singles win of the afternoon for the team in the sixth singles slot, taking down his opponent 7-6 (3), 5-7, 10-5. 
 
The Bombers are set to take on Washington College on Tuesday, March 15, for the next match of the team's spring break trip. Start time is slated for 10 a.m.
