ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's and women's tennis teams have officially released their 2021 schedules for the spring season, with the men starting things off at Houghton College on Wednesday, March 24.
The Bombers head into this abbreviated spring season under first-year head coach
Chris Hayes '16. Hayes was promoted to lead the program over the summer after the retirement of Bill Austin. Hayes returned to South Hill in 2018 as an assistant coach following an 18-month stint at Division I Mercer University.
IC will boast 12 players on the men's roster and 13 on the women's team.
The men's roster consists of graduate students
Max Prestwich and Minos Stravrakas (captain), senior
George Lomas (captain), junior
Artem Khaybullin, sophomores
Tyler Purdy,
Max Sobel and
Wyman Ward. Newcomers this season are
Eric Dubilirer,
Deon Kraft,
Nicolas Luis,
Anthony Villella and
Jacob Wachs.
For the women, graduate student
Jane Alkhazov and senior
Sara Steinberg will serve as captains.
Alexandra Dyszewski,
Rel Klein and
Shannon Wolfe make up the junior class, while
Rebecca Andrews,
Zoe Davis,
Caroline Herz,
Sarah Kohberger and
Sarah Sposito represented the sophomores. There are three first-year players this season as well –
Isabelle Bennett,
Audry Johnson and
Allyson Stefanski.
After the men's opening match at Houghton, both programs will play home against Vassar at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 3. The women will host Cortland on Wednesday, April 7 for a match beginning at 4 p.m.
For the rest of the regular season, both teams will play together. IC heads to St. Lawrence on Saturday, April 10 and then to Vassar on the 17th. The Bombers return to South Hill on April 24 to take on Hobart and William Smith before traveling to Geneva the following day. IC wraps up its regular season against RIT on May 1.
The Liberty League Championship is scheduled to take place on May 5 and May 8. More information will be provided on the tournament at a later date.
