Men’s Tennis Solid at ITA Regionals

Day 1 Results (PDF)

GENEVA, N.Y. –
It was a solid day of opening action for the Ithaca College men's tennis team, who were on the courts on Friday at Hobart College for the first day of the 2021 ITA Northeast Regional Championships. The Bombers saw a pair of victories one occurring in singles action and the other in doubles with Nicolas Luis contributing outstanding play in both successes.

Luis began singles action with a 6-0, 6-0 victory against SUNY Oneonta's August LePique. He was dominant throughout the match and didn't give much breathing room to his opponent. In the next round, Nicolas Luis wasn't as successful as he was unable to move on to Saturday's Round of 16. He dropped his second round matchup to Aidan Drover-Mattinen, who is the top-seed in this year's tournament by scores of 6-3, 6-0.

In the opening singles round, the Bombers also had several other competitors in action. Sophomore Eric Dubilirer squared off against the University of Rochester's Kai Yuminaga, shouldering a 6-4, 6-4 loss. Minos Stavrakas took on Igor Visnevskij from RPI and suffered a 6-0, 6-2 loss.

Nicolas Luis and Eric Dubilirer teamed up in the first round of doubles action and successfully won their match against a pair of opponents from Nazareth. The IC tandem beat Nazareth College's Nathan Allen and Will Britton 8-1. In their next matchup against Skidmore's Alper Kulturel and Noah Williamson, the Bombers suffered a tough 8-1 loss.

IC will be competing in the consolation matches at the ITA's with action continuing on Saturday at 9 a.m.
