The Bombers most competitive match of the day came during the doubles session, as the second-slot tandem of seniors
Colten Lavery and
Liam Spiegel battled to the end in a 8-6 nail-biter against Rochester's second tandem of Pasquale Procaccino and Matt Resnikoff. The other two match-ups were convincing with senior
Sam Fried and junior
George Lomas falling 8-1 in the first-slot, while the first-year tandem of
Max Sobel and
Wyman Ward were shutout 8-0 in the third.
Ithaca avoided any shutout sets during the singles session, but did not come within a break of taking a set in any of the six matchups. Sobel and Spiegel posted the best efforts, each taking multiple games across two sets in the match-ups at the sixth and second lineup slots, respectively. Sophomore
Artem Khaybullin also got the singles nod in the fifth slot, but was unable to get much traction going in a 6-2, 6-1 defeat.
Ithaca returns to the court next weekend when it jumps into Liberty League play with a pivotal early-season clash against RIT on Saturday, February 29. The match was moved earlier this year to Cornell's Reis Tennis Center with the A&E Center's Glazer Arena serving as the host site for the 2020 NCAA Mideast Regional Championships for wrestling. Start time for the match with the Tigers is shortly after 12:00 p.m.
