The Cardinals put Ithaca in a deep hole during the first session of the day coasting to three straight 8-2 victories in doubles. None of IC's three tandems were able to gain much traction to begin the afternoon. Juniors
Minos Stavrakas and
Colten Lavery fell in the first slot, senior
Sam McGrath and junior
Max Prestwich took the loss in the second slot, while juniors
Stefan Lazarevic and
Liam Spiegel dropped the third-doubles matchup.
The lone highlight of the day for Ithaca came in the singles session, as senior
Garrett Boleslav battled back from a opening set loss to score IC's only team point of the afternoon in his sixth-singles matchup against Wesleyan's Max Lee. After dropping the first set by a competitive 6-4 margin, Boleslav raced back with an impressive 6-2 win in the second to force a third-set super-breaker. Boleslav kept the momentum rolling, surging past Lee for a 10-4 win.
McGrath also took things to a third-set in his second-singles matchup against Zach Lieb. Like Boleslav, McGrath dropped the opening set, before storming back to win the second in a tiebreaker. He forced the third-set with a 7-3 win in the breaker, but the comeback really took an exhausting amount of energy from the senior. Lieb regrouped for the super-breaker, out-distancing McGrath by a 10-4 margin.
The other singles matchups were not as close. Stavrakas, Lavery, sophomore
Sam Fried and Prestwich each dropped their respective matches in straight sets.
Ithaca returns to action on Thursday, March 28, when it faces a crucial Liberty League match against Hobart at home. Start time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
