CANTON, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's tennis opened the fall portion of its schedule on Saturday morning when it traveled a contingent of netters up to Canton, N.Y., for the St. Lawrence Invitational. Ithaca's experienced group performed well against some of the top competition in the region, advancing four players in singles action and two doubles tandems into tomorrow's winners bracket contests.
 
Ithaca has players in either semifinal or final round bouts in all four tournament flights heading into Sunday. The 'A' Flight is highlighted by junior standout Minos Stavrakas, who took home a pair of victories to punch his ticket to Sunday's semifinal. The 'B' Flight also has a Bomber in the semifinals as junior Colten Lavery also picked up a pair of victories during the first day of competition. The 'C' Flight was starred by first-year talent Jon Tuerk, who picked up two victories in his collegiate debut on Saturday. The smaller 'D' Flight also has an IC player advanced into tomorrow, as sophomore George Lomas will play in tomorrow's final.
 
The Bombers' doubles groupings were also encouraging, as a pair of doubles tandems scored two victories to move to Sunday's final rounds. In the 'A' Flight, the grouping of Stavrakas and senior Michael Gardiner got off to a great start to the year with a pair of victories. This duo was lethal two seasons ago and once again showed its talent again on Saturday. In the 'B' Flight, Tuerk and Lavery synced up for the first time as a pairing and showed the makings of something special. A Indiana State Champion in doubles play, Tuerk formed a perfect complement to Lavery, as the group rolled to two victories to advance to tomorrow's semi.
 
Ithaca also has one grouping in the 'B' Flight consolations as well, as Lomas and first-year player Artem Khaybullin. Although the duo dropped their opening contest, they rebounded with a victory in the first consolation match to reach the semifinal of that flight.
 
Also picking up singles victories on the day, but not advancing into tomorrow were senior Sam McGrath, junior Sam Fried, while junior Liam Spiegel and senior Garrett Boleslav also made their fall debut on Saturday.
