Baseball Splits Doubleheader at St. Joseph’s – L.I.

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – The Ithaca College baseball program split a road doubleheader at St. Joseph's College-Long Island on Sunday at Greg Alfano Stadium. Ithaca prevailed in Game One, 4-3, but dropped the second contest by a 4-1 outcome. The Bombers are now 3-2 on the season.

GAME ONE: Ithaca – 4, St. Joseph's – 3

St. Joseph's took an early lead, 1-0, in the opener with a leadoff home run in the bottom of the second inning. The Golden Eagles would extend their lead to 3-0 in the third inning with two runs on three hits and an Ithaca error.

In the top of the fourth, Ithaca got two runs back as junior Sam Little started the rally with a one-out single. Juniors Andrew Bailey and Matt Carey drew walks to load the bases and then junior Jake Generali drew another free pass to bring in S. Little. After the second out was recorded, junior Cam Fuoti was hit by a pitch to push home Carey.

Ithaca left the bases loaded after a pitching change by the Golden Eagles induced a pop out.

The Bombers took the lead, 4-3, in the top of the fifth inning on a two-run single by Generali with the bases loaded for the eventual game-winning hit. Before the run-scoring base hit, junior Adam Gallagher reached on a one-out single and then S. Little walked. A wild pitch allowed the runners to move up, and after the second out was recorded, Carey was plunked to load the bases, which set up the go-ahead hit from Generali.

Junior Jake Binder tossed a complete game for his first win of the season. Binder surrendered seven hits and struck out four batters over seven innings of work.

Generali and Gallagher each recorded two hits for IC, while Generali had three RBI. Ithaca also walked six times as a team.

GAME TWO: St. Joseph's – 4, Ithaca – 1

The Golden Eagles once again jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the second inning as they pushed two runs across in the frame on wild pitches and another on a groundout.

Ithaca got a run back in the top of the third as junior Garrett Snyder singled through the left to bring in Fuoti, who reached on a leadoff double and moved up to third on a fly out.

St. Joseph's threatened to build on its advantage by loading the bases with one out in the bottom of the fourth. Senior Jack Morello came in out of the bullpen to reliever fellow senior Tyler Hill and got out of the jam with a strikeout and fielder's choice to preserve the 3-1 score.

In the bottom of the fifth, St. Joseph's added another run to account for the final score of 4-1.

Ithaca produced only four hits in the setback and went just 1-for-14 with runners on base.

Hill was tagged with the loss in 3.1 innings pitched. Hill allowed three runs on one hit but walked seven batters. Morello struck out three batters over 1.2 innings of relief and senior Robby Buffis threw a scoreless inning out of the bullpen.

The Bombers open up their spring trip at Pomona-Pitzer in Claremont, Calif. on March 11 at 1 p.m. PST.
