ITHACA, N.Y. – The No. 2 Ithaca College wrestling team put the finishing touches on an impressive season-opening event on Saturday when the squad returned to the mats at the A&E Center's Glazer Arena for the final day of the 35
th Annual Ithaca Invitational. The Bombers racked up 167.0 team points to pull away from the 12-team field, in the process crowing four individual champions among the 10 weight classes.
The Bombers dominated the final session of the afternoon, posting four weight-class champions and finishing with nine additional place-winners for a total of 13. Senior
Ferdinand Mase got the ball rolling in the session when he scored a 4-0 decision over second-seeded Diego Santiago of New England College. Junior
Ben Brisman continued his title defense with a 10-3 decision over third-seeded Max Tempel of Castleton at 141-pounds. Senior
Austin Whitney notched IC's third division championship of the day at 165-pounds with an 8-3 decision over second-seed Aarin Feliz of Springfield, while senior
Jake Ashcraft put the bow on things for the Bombers with a 4-0 blanking of nationally-ranked John Boyle of Western New England in one of the most-anticipated bouts of the weekend.

Ashcraft was named Most Outstanding Wrestler at the conclusion of the event, as voted on by the 12 head coaches. He finished the weekend with a perfect 4-0 record, which included three first-period falls and the 4-0 blanking of Boyle in the final. He did not concede a single point to opposition on the weekend.
Another Bomber took home the Most Pins Award, as
Al Ciccitto turned in a masterful performance in his return to competition following a one-year hiatus. He recorded five pins in the least amount of time in his amazing run from an opening-round loss to score third-place in the 149-pound bracket. It was a truly remarkable weekend for one of IC's up-and-coming middle-weight talents.

Ithaca will return to action next weekend when it heads to Troy, N.Y., for a pair of events at Hudson Valley Community College. First, IC will take part in a cross-divisional dual-style event at the Northeast Duals. IC will face Division I foes University of Virginia and Appalachian State, as well as Division III rival Castleton on Saturday. The Bombers will have selected wrestlers compete the following afternoon in a round-robin style invitational at the Journeymen Collegiate Classic. The Northeast Duals will be on Saturday, November 10, with the Journeymen Classic taking place on Sunday, November 11.
