CANTON, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's tennis team had one doubles team still alive heading into the final day of action at the season-opening St. Lawrence Invitational. Sophomores
Liam Spiegel and
Max Prestwich looked to continue their strong play from Saturday's first action to capture a flight championship.

Spiegel and Prestwich punched their ticket to Sunday with a pair of victories in doubles competition on Saturday. They opened the flight with an 8-4 triumph over Gibbons and Zeitler of Hamilton College in the opening round. The combo dispatched Hartveit and Koblence of Rochester in an convincing 8-2 triumph to make it to Sunday morning's semifinal round.

Ithaca's sophomore duo picked up where they left off on Sunday, besting May and Zimmerman of Hamilton College in another dominant decision. Spiegel and Prestwich used clinical play to establish and early lead, pulling away for an 8-1 decision.

Unfortunately, the duo's run came to an end in the finals, as they fell to Gray and Anderson of Hobart in an 8-4 decision in the finals.

The IC men also had three players compete in a singles backdraw on Sunday.
Sam McGrath,
Colten Lavery and Prestwich each took to the courts for some extra work.

McGrath went 1-1 on the day, winning his opening round match, before falling in the semifinals of the A-Flight singles backdraw. McGrath defeated Jared Ingoglia of RIT in an 8-4 decision, before falling to Sam Farber of Hamilton in a closely fought 8-6 battle.

Lavery lost his lone match of the day, suffering an 8-4 defeat to Yifan Shen of Rochester, who went on to win the B-Flight of the singles backdraw. Prestwich went 1-1 in singles on the day, scoring his victory in an 8-3 triumph over Sohaj Somani of Rochester.

Ithaca returns to action next weekend when they travel to Pennsylvania for the Bloomsburg Invitational on Saturday, September 16, and Sunday, September 17.
