ITHACA, N.Y. —The nationally-ranked Ithaca College wrestling team handed Nassau Community College, the defending NJCAA Division III national champions, a 28-16 defeat Friday night inside the Ben Light Gymnasium.

Senior Zack Conner secured a pin at 197 and freshman Jake O'Brien added a 3-2 decision victory at 285 as Ithaca (10-4) rallied from an early 9-0 deficit to secure the win, Ithaca's fifth straight home dual win dating to the 2014-15 season.

Freshman Jawan Jones secured a 12-9 decision at 149 and sophomore Nick Velez added a 15-1 major decision win at 165 to spark Ithaca.

Ithaca also picked up a pair of forfeit wins on the day at both 141 (Nick Wahba) and 174 (Nik Hansen)

After the Bombers dropped the first two bouts of the dual competition, Wahba earned a forfeit win and Jones won a back-and-forth decision over John Sherlock to win at 149. Jones and Sherlock traded points through the first two periods before Jones seized control with a big takedown in the final period.

Following a loss at 157, Velez took a 6-0 lead over Sam Schwartzapel at 165 thanks to a takedown late in the second. He added a pair of takedowns halfway through the third and secured a 15-1 major decision win to stake the Bombers to a 13-12 lead.

Following a forfeit win at 174, Ithaca took a 19-12 lead into the 184-pound match. Ithaca suffered a loss at 184, but senior Zack Conner delivered a pin in 1:32 at 197 to put the Bombers ahead 25-16 heading into the final match.

Conner led 2-0 after one minute of his clash, then drove Daniel Joseph to the far side of the mat and secured the pin to give Ithaca a lead it would not relinquish.

O'Brien finished the match by grinding out a 3-2 win as Ithaca remained undefeated at home over its last five dual matches.
