Box Score ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College baseball team fell in its regular season finale at home to Stevens on Sunday, 6-1. With the loss, Ithaca is now 17-14 on the season and will play in the Empire 8 Conference Tournament next weekend, May 7-9, at Utica.
The Bombers were able to score the game's first run in the bottom of the fourth on a throwing error as Stevens was attempting to turn a double play. Senior
Christian Brown scored from second base on the errant throw at first after he reached on a single to lead off the frame.
Stevens had an opportunity to knot the contest up at 1-1 in the top of the fifth after a sacrifice bunt moved two runners into scoring position, but senior
Andrew Sanders induced a pop up to shortstop and struck out the next batter to keep the shutout intact.
In the top of the sixth, Stevens threatened again by placing its first two runners on via singles. Sanders, once again, hunkered down and forced the Ducks into three straight fly outs.
Sanders tossed 7.1 innings with four strikeouts and six hits allowed before he was lifted from the game for senior
Jimmy Wagner.
Wagner entered with runners on first and second and one out. A groundout to first base moved the runners up, and then scored on a single up the middle to give Stevens a 2-1 lead.
Stevens extended its lead to 4-1 in the ninth on a two-run double with the bases loaded and no outs. A passed ball on a walk allowed one more run to come home to make the score 5-1. The Ducks plated one more on a failed pick off and throwing error at first base to account for the final score.
Juniors
Stephen Yanchus and
Zach Cole each had two hits, as did sophomore
Josh Savacool.
More information on the seedings of the Empire 8 Tournament will be posted later this week.
