Box Score OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Ithaca College baseball team used a five-run ninth inning to turn a 4-1 deficit into a 6-4 victory at Oswego on Tuesday afternoon. With the win, Ithaca improves its record to 14-13 on the season, while dropping Oswego to 24-9.
In the ninth, sophomore
Trevor Thompson led off with a single and junior
Stephen Yanchus followed with another base hit. After a pitching change, junior
Zach Cole notched the third straight hit to load the bases, which set up sophomore
Ryan Henchey for a two-run single down the left field line. A sacrifice bunt moved the runners up and then freshman
Domenic Boresta beat out on infield hit and pushed classmate
Ryan Dougherty home to knot the game up at 4-4. A sacrifice fly off the bat of senior
Cooper Belyea put the Bombers ahead as Henchey crossed home and Boresta came around to score on a double from senior
Christian Brown to secure the win.
Senior
Jimmy Wagner stepped in to close the game out and fanned two batters in the bottom of the ninth for his sixth save of the season. With the save today, Wagner sits alone atop the career saves list with 17, surpassing the mark of 16 set by Tucker Healy '12 and Mike Saccomanno '93.
Freshman
Tyler Hill earned the win in a perfect inning of relief, while senior
Zach Dickstein tossed seven solid innings in a starting role. Dickstein surrendered four runs (three earned) on five hits, a walk and three hit batters, but also struck out two Lakers.
Oswego built a 3-0 lead after three innings before the Bombers got on the board in the fourth on a solo homerun from Thompson. The Lakers got that run back in the seventh before Ithaca's break-out inning in the ninth.
Thompson went 3-for-4 in the game with two runs scored, while Cole batted 2-for-4. Brown also collected two hits in five trips to the plate.
Ithaca is back in action tomorrow night at 7 p.m. for a neutral site game against St. Lawrence at Onondaga Community College in Syracuse.
