Box Score CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Ithaca College baseball program was shutout on Monday afternoon by Pomona-Pitzer, 7-0, in Claremont, Calif. Ithaca is now 0-2 in the early season, while Pomona-Pitzer improves to 13-3.
Pomona-Pitzer opened up a 5-0 lead in the third inning on six hits and three Ithaca errors. The Sagehens put together five consecutive hits, including a double, before an out was recorded.
The Sagehens plated one more in the fifth on a pair of hits with balk to lift junior
Benji Parkes from the game. Junior
Ryan Contegni entered in relief and retired two of the three batters he faced without allowing another run to score.
Parkes tossed 4.1 innings and surrendered eight hits with four earned runs.
Ithaca threatened to score in the sixth after a double from senior
John Stanley and a single by junior
Stephen Yanchus placed runners on first and third with one out. The next two batters were unable to get a ball out of the infield to bring a run home.
Another run came across for Pomona-Pitzer in the sixth for a 7-0 deficit for the Bombers. The Sagehens had a chance to tack on more in the frame with the bases loaded and no outs, but Contegni struck out two straight hitters and forced the third to fly out.
Over Ithaca's final three at bats, the Bombers produced just one hit, a double by senior
Christian Brown, and a walk from senior
Brian Burns.
Contegni tossed 1.2 innings with two strikeouts, while sophomore
Logan Barer went 1.1 innings. Senior
Jared Amory threw the final 2/3 of an inning and fanned one batter.
Ithaca will look for its first victory of the season tomorrow against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at 2:30 p.m. (PST).
