Box Score OSWEGO, N.Y. -- The 20th-ranked Ithaca College baseball team dropped a 4-3 game in 11 innings on Wednesday afternoon at Oswego. Ithaca's record stands at 22-8 on the season, while Oswego improved to 18-8. It was Oswego's third victory this season over a nationally-ranked team.
Ithaca took the lead with a run in the top of the first on an RBI double from
Colby Gee that brought home
Tim Henry, but Oswego tied it with a run in the bottom of the inning.
The teams again traded single runs in the fourth inning. Ithaca scored on an RBI single from
Cooper Belyea that brought home
Zach Cole. Oswego answered with a run in the bottom half, then scored again in the sixth to take a 3-2 lead.
Ithaca tied it in the top of the seventh. Belyea started the inning with a single and
Christian Brown followed with a hit, then
Luke Stark walked to load the bases with nobody out. Henry hit a sacrifice fly to bring in the tying run, and then Gee was intentionally walked to re-load the bases. The rally ended on an infield pop-out and a ground out to second base.
The Bombers got their first two base runners aboard in the 11th but had the go-ahead run cut down at the plate with the infield in, and a double play ball ended the threat. Oswego's winning run came in the 11th inning. With one out, a ground ball up the middle was thrown into the outfield, allowing the batter to go to third on the error. The winning run came in on a fielder's choice.
Four Ithaca players had multiple-hit games. Belyea was 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored. Gee, Cole and
Luke Stark had two hits each.
Josh Savacool had a double. Ithaca left 11 runners on base.
Jimmy Wagner took the loss in relief, falling to 4-1 on the season.
John Prendergast started and pitched four innings, allowing two earned runs on seven hits with two strikeouts.
Brandon Diorio worked three and two-thirds innings, allowing one run on four hits with a walk and a strikeout.
Ithaca returns to action this weekend with a Saturday doubleheader at New Paltz and a Sunday doubleheader at York (Pa.).
