Box Score ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College field hockey team dropped a tight contest with Utica Saturday afternoon, falling to the Pioneers by a score of 3-2 at Higgins Stadium. Ithaca is now 5-6 on the season, with a mark of 3-2 in the Empire 8.

Senior Danielle Coiro and sophomore Colleen Keegan-Twombly scored for the Bombers, while sophomore goalkeeper Katie Lass made 10 saves on 13 Pioneer shots.

Ithaca struck first, as Coiro scored her fifth goal of the season just three minutes into the game. Junior Caitlin O'Brien started the play with a shot towards the Utica net. She found Coiro in front, who beat the Utica keeper for the 1-0 lead.

After a Pioneer goal in the 12th minute evened the contest, the Bombers pushed ahead again with their second score of the half. After Coiro was stopped on a shot right in front, a scrum pushed the ball to Keegan-Twombly on the far side. Keegan-Twombly took advantage and scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season, and gave Ithaca the 2-1 lead.

Utica would score again before the end of the frame, putting the score at 2-2 at halftime.

Ithaca pressured throughout the final frame, earning five penalty corners in the half. Despite the Bombers' pressure, Utica scored the lone goal of the half at 53:34, giving the Pioneers a 3-2 lead. Ithaca was unable to score in the closing minutes, giving the Pioneers the victory.

The Bombers are back in action on Sunday, Oct. 12, as they take on the Presidents of Washington and Jefferson at 1 p.m. Sunday also marks Ithaca's senior day, as the Bombers will pay tribute to classmates Coiro, Sarah Pfeifle, Natalie Lynch and Amber Foose.
