No. 22 Field Hockey Falls to Rochester, 2-1

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The No. 22 Ithaca College field hockey team lost its second game in regulation this season getting beaten out by the Rochester Yellowjackets by a final score of 2-1 on Friday, Oct. 16. The Bombers now lost its second game in a row, advancing to 10-4 overall and 3-2 in conference play.

IC would open up by pressing the Yellowjackets hard through the first 10 minutes, but the energy quickly shifted when the Bombers subbed out Ellie Gipe for Amelia Macdonald in the eighth minute due to injury.

Quickly following the hard shot block, Rochester gained possession from that play and Molly Newbold found herself right in the center of the shooting and fired a shot past Bombers' goalkeeper Maeve Clark along the right side post, giving Rochester the first goal of the contest.

Ithaca College kept pressing in the first half ultimately gaining its first quarter early in the 17th minute of play and another one just a minute later. IC could not convert on either chance keeping the at 1-0 Yellowjackets ending the first half of play.

Coming out of the half the Yellowjackets swarmed the Bombers early forcing a corner. Then Rodchester ended up getting a penalty stroke corner on the same play.

Gloria McDonald would be awarded the stroke and she scored, beating Clark on the high left side sending the Yellowjackets up by two with just 10 minutes to go in the fourth quarter.

Rochester gained a few more chances posting two more additional shots by Maeve Clark for Ithaca College turned them aside.

IC took the momentum back in the fourth quarter as Toni Iardi crossed a pass to the center of the shooting circle finding Caroline Folan. She would pull the ball into a c-drag, curling the ball up and in for the Bombers first goal of the game.

The Bombers took this quarter by storm with six shots and three corners. However, it wasn't enough as IC fell to the Yellowjackets by a final score of 2-1.

The field hockey team hosts William Smith College on Sunday, Oct. 18 at 1 P.M. at Higgins Stadium.
