ITHACA, N.Y - The No. 22 Ithaca College field hockey team dropped its third game in a row to the William Smith Herons 3-1 on Sunday Oct. 18. The Ithaca College Bombers now sit 3-3 in conference play and fourth in the Liberty League.
Ithaca College started the game on a high note scoring within the first three minutes as
Breeah Shaw would find the back of the cage from a cross crease pass by
Caroline Folan.
The Bombers would hold the lead only for five minutes as Mia Batchelder scored one of three unanswered goals. Batchelder found space right in front of the cage, in the middle of the shooting circle, and Eliza Freeland found her for Batchelder's eighth goal of the season.
William Smith wouldn't end the quarter with only one goal, as Ana Dios Vidal found a lane from the top of the shooting circle and ripped a shot to make it 2-1 Herons.
IC started the second quarter with some momentum pushing the pace of play into William Smith's 25. With multiple shots and a corner but couldn't find the back of the cage.
The momentum quickly flipped into the favor of the Herons. The final five minutes of the second quarter would be spent in IC's zone, with the Herons registering two shots one on goal and two penalty corners.
The second half felt vaguely similar to that of the Rochester games on Oct. 16. With the Bombers finding few chances and unable to score in times they were given.
IC found itself with only two penalty corners in the second half and weren't able to generate anything off of them. Only having a combined three shots in the second half and all three would be on goal.
Still the Bombers were unable to score again against Wiliiam Smith goalkeeper Olivia Terranova.
But the Herons found the back of the cage one more time against Bombers' goalkeeper
Maeve Clark. In the dying minutes of the third quarter, Ana Dios Vidal shot the ball from the top of the circle and Ashley Edmonds tipped in the initial shot to give the Herons a 3-1 lead and the eventual game-winner.
The Bombers travel to Troy N.Y. on Oct. 24 to play RPI in its last Liberty League game of the season.
