ONEONTA, N.Y. -- The Ithaca College baseball team moved up in both national polls when they were released Tuesday morning, then went on the road and defeated Oneonta 6-3 on Tuesday afternoon. The Bombers improved to 26-6 on the season while Oneonta fell to 10-22.
Ithaca moved from 20th to 18th in the
D3baseball.com poll and remained 14th in the
BaseballNews.com Division III rankings for the week of April 23. The Bombers return to action Wednesday at Oswego. Ithaca made it two wins in two meetings against the Red Dragons this year, after defeating Oneonta 7-6 at Freeman Field on April 3.
The Bombers built a 6-0 lead in Tuesday's game at Oneonta before allowing three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning. Ithaca scored once in the second on an RBI groundout from
Matt Connolly and added a run in the third on a wild pitch. Another RBI groundout in the fifth made it 3-0.
Ithaca broke the game open in the sixth with three runs.
Andrew Turner had an RBI single and later scored on an infield error following a single from
Christian Brown.
Tim Henry came through with a two-out RBI hit to bring in Brown for the sixth Ithaca run.
Starting pitcher
Andrew Sanders worked seven shutout innings, allowing just four hits and one walk with five strikeouts.
Zach Pidgeon pitched the eighth and into the ninth, and
David Jasukonis came in to pitch the Bombers out of the ninth-inning jam and pick up his fourth save of the season.
Ithaca totaled 10 hits in the game. Henry led the team with three hits and had one RBI. Brown and Turner had two hits each, and Turner scored three times.
Tim Locastro doubled and
Corey Caswell also had a hit.
