Rand, Connors Leads Men's Swimming & Diving To 15th Win Of Year

Antoine Connors was on two winning relays and won the 50 free
ITHACA, N.Y. - The Ithaca men's swimming & diving team defeated Alfred 192.5-106.5 in a dual meet Saturday at the Athletics & Events Center Aquatics Pavilion. The win gave Ithaca a 15-1 record on the year, the second year in a row that the Bombers have won 15 dual meets.

The Bombers won seven individual events in the pool, two relays, and both diving events in the convincing victory. Senior Derek Rand (Amity/Orange, Conn.) placed first on the 3-meter diving board with a score of 304.58 and first on 1-meter with a total of 289.50.

Ithaca started the meet with a win in the 200-yard medley relay with the team of sophomore Connor White (Fox Lane/Pound Ridge), junior Jake Lichter (Weston/Weston, Mass.), senior Jeff Rapp (Liverpool/Liverpool) and senior Antoine Connors (Spartanburg/Spartanburg, S.C.) with a time of 1:36.98. The Bombers closed the meet with a win in the 200-yard freestyle relay behind the efforts of junior Jake Robbins (Fairport/Fairport), freshman Peter Knight (Franklin D. Roosevelt/Hyde Park), sophomore Zack Kundel (Bethlehem/Glenmont) and Connors in 1:26.35.

The Bombers won both backstroke events as freshman Logan Metzger (Lewisburg Area/Winfield, Pa.) won the 100 back in 54.84 seconds and freshman Ben Kennedy (Belmont/Belmont, Mass.) won the 200 back in 1:59.59.

Sophomore Cheffy Thomas (Carmel/Carmel, Ind.) won the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:16.52, sophomore Taylor Van Cott (Bethlehem/Delmar) won the 100-yard butterfly in 53.71 seconds and freshman Clement Towner (Lansing/Lansing) won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:45.64.

Connors also placed first in the 50-yard freestyle in 21.65 seconds and Robbins won the 100-yard freestyle in 48.29 seconds.

The Bombers will host the Dick Comanzo Memorial Diving Invitational on Sunday at noon, and then wrap up the regular season at home against Union at 2 p.m. on Feb. 4.
