Biography

2013-14: Kundel was a two- time all-conference selection, and was named Empire 8 / UNYSCSA champion after taking first in the 200-yard medley relay at the state meet. In total, he earned three all-state honors after a fourth place finish in the 50-yard freestyle and a second place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Kundel appeared at the NCAA Championships and took home all-America honors after helping the 200-yard freestyle relay place 14th overall. He was the 2013-14 recipient of the Ben Light Senior Male Athlete of the Year. Kundel finishes his career with nine all-state selections, four state championships, nine all-conference selections and five Empire 8 titles.

2012-13: Kundel earned an All-Empire 8 First Team selection after winning the 50-yard freestyle at the UNYSCSA Championships, earning all-state honors in the process. Kundel's 50 time of 20.55 set a school and pool record. Kundel was also part of the winning 200-freestyle relay team at the UNYSCSA Championships. He earned All-Empire 8 Second Team honors after finishing second in the 200-yard medley relay. Kundel earned honorable mention all-America honors as part of the 200-yard freestyle relay team, finishing 13th overall at NCAAs with a time of 1:22.63. He was named a College Swimming Coaches Association First Team Scholar All-America selection, making him one of five Bombers to earn the honor.
        
2011-12: Kundel became an all-American for the first time in his career by anchoring Ithaca's 13th-place 200-yard freestyle relay at the NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships. He was on the 200-yard medley and 200-yard freestyle relays that won the UNYSCSA and Empire 8 championships. He was second in the UNYSCSA in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 20.98 seconds, which ranks second all-time at Ithaca.

2010-11: As a freshman, Kundel was on the 200-yard freestyle relay that placed second in both the UNYSCSA and the Empire 8.

High School: A 2010 graduate of Bethlehem Central School, Kundel was a four-year varsity swimmer and served as a team captain. He was named as the outstanding senior athlete and was a three-time state-meet participant. Kundel also played two years of varsity baseball.

Personal: A physical education and health education major, Zack is the son of Thomas and Therese Kundel.
